## Ecosim™: what is it?

Ecosim combines two well proven processes from Veolia Water Technology portfolio: the PMT Ecodisk and the [Anoxkaldnes](https://www.anoxkaldnes.com/en) MBBR, in order to ensure the optimal treatment of Carbon & Nitrogen related pollution.

With a simple and reliable approach, Ecosim offers high performance at low operating and maintenance costs.

## Principle

*Ecosim™ is a biological wastewater treatment system that automatically adapts itself to frequent hydraulic and organic loading variations.*

Its operating principle is inspired by a moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) : bacteria naturally grow on the surface of the rotating media to form a "bioturf".   
When the drum emerges, the bacteria consumes oxygen, and when it is submerged, bacteria consumes dissolved organic matter.

The crucial difference between a conventional MBBR process and Ecosim™ is the aeration source.

  
Conventional MBBR systems need air blowers to supply the adequate O₂ into the system. Therefore systems’ electrical consumption is generally high.

  
By using the rotation of the drum for the aeration, Ecosim™ offers a much **more energy-efficient solution.**
